Job Specifics

Duties Description As a Senior Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner, you would oversee and train Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiners who apply the Unemployment Insurance Law, administrative rulings, and precedent adjudicated decisions, to determine worker status and employee coverage under Unemployment Insurance Law, employer contribution liability and experience rating, and Unemployment Insurance benefit claims contingent on employee coverage or employer liability. You would make determinations on questions of liability and coverage, penalty assessments and wage reporting issues; handle the most sensitive or difficult cases; and prepare appeal briefs.

Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in as a Senior Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Senior Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner eligible list for this location, if one exists.

Provisional Qualifications: (DOL EMPLOYEES ONLY)
You must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Labor and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner or Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner Trainee. The appointed candidate would have to have signed up, and provide proof of sign-up, for the latest holding of Senior UI Reviewing Examiner examination that took place February 8, 2025. The candidate must have received a passing score and be reachable to maintain this position.

Additionally, in accordance with Civil Service Law, provisional service immediately prior to a permanent appointment to this title is now credited towards the completion of probation upon permanent appointment.
