Job Specifics
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Facilities and Business Services is seeking candidates for a Cleaner position in the Cultural Education Center. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Collects and empties trash and recycling in accordance with cleaning schedules; cleans and/or removes hazardous or misplaced items, waste, and spills; and disposes, transports, or places such in appropriate receptacles and locations, following proper cleaning procedures;
• Assembles cleaning carts according to assigned tasks; and prepares, mixes, and dilutes cleaning solutions following manufacturer directions;
• Washes floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows using mops, detergents, brushes, and other cleaning devices;
• Vacuums, strips and waxes floors, and shampoos carpets, using manual or mechanical equipment.
• Scrubs and cleans showers and restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and drains, using hand-operated equipment and cleaning agents;
• Replaces light bulbs, and dusts or washes light fixtures and high places, such as ceilings, using ladders, other appropriate equipment, and tools;
• Polishes wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment;
• Monitors cleaning supplies and equipment; and notifies supervisor of supply levels, equipment malfunction, and/or maintenance issues observed during cleaning;
• Replaces, cleans, and/or hangs building fixtures and decorative items, such as curtains, blinds, and pictures;
• Moves, and arranges furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks or in preparation for meetings, events, and other activities;
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor as well as understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:00pm (this includes a 30-minute duty free, unpaid meal break).
Employees of The New York State Education Department who are currently working either 50% or 100% in a cleaner position and are interested in this position MUST apply to the position as outlined in the Application section of this flyer.
This position leads to a maximum salary of $42,565 based on annual performance advances.
